Rerouting a dryer vent in Alhambra

Alhambra's pre-war bungalows were not built for dryers. Laundry got added later, often in a back porch or garage. Plenty of those runs terminate into a crawlspace or under an eave. They were never ducted to daylight at all. That is the usual reason we reroute rather than clean.

The second common reroute is geometry. A dryer shoved against a garage wall crushes foil flex behind it. Every inch of crushed flex acts like added length. We re-plan the path in rigid metal, cut the run shorter, and reduce elbows. Joints get clamped, not taped. Taped joints drop lint into wall cavities and garage framing. Terminations matter as much as the duct. Screened or louvered caps pack solid with dry lint, especially mesh owners add against birds. We swap to a proper damper hood. On second-floor laundries, a roof jack collects lint plus roof grit and leaf litter. Sometimes the better reroute is sidewall instead of roof.

Gas dryers are the norm in this housing stock. A blocked or dead-ended run is a combustion and CO issue, not only a lint issue. Burning smell or a hot cabinet means stop using it.
